Five Days Till Spring!

I hope the coming change of season finds you filled with renewed hope. Spring always feels hopeful to me. I walk around the garden and see tender new shoots of returning plants poking out of the soil. It’s like reconnecting with old friends.

The season hasn’t quite turned yet here. Nights are still in the low 30’s but I keep hoping that’ll shift any day now. Waiting for the koi to wake and come to the surface of the water.

I’ve been busy moving plants since last fall. Only two more to go! Once I get them all moved, I’ll post the final number here. I know it’s over a hundred. Some large shrubs, others tiny perennials. A staggering number of plants have been moved around in the garden renovation process. That and the fact that the spouse and I have divided up the garden – once again.

Every few years we go back and forth between combining and dividing it and who’s in charge of what areas. As he nears retirement, he’s decided he wants his own spaces again. And as I’ve spent the last year immersing myself in the garden to escape the pandemic and news about politics, I’ve become more opinionated about what plants I want to surround myself with. We have very different tastes.

We can’t move everything. Some plants have simply been replaced as they were coming to the end of their life. Some have succumbed to being broken by snow or disease. Others are completely content to risk moving or far too large. So there are a number of plants in each of our spaces that we’re working around.

Pruning season is here and the plants we ordered online have been arriving all month, so there’s more to do out there than can possibly be done in a reasonable amount of time. But I keep trying, saying next year will be easier. I believe I said that last spring too.

In other news, I’m still publishing once a month. Today I’ll publish a collection of stories called Fantastic Tales. I don’t have a link for it yet.

In January, it was A Glare of Cats. So far it’s only up on Amazon, but I will get it up for sale at other vendors. Soon!

The time is drawing close for the pandemic project I’ve been doing with two other writers, Susan Brown and Susan Old. We’ll be publishing our first anthology, Witch Magic, on May 5. It contains a novella from each of us.

I’m so excited to see Witch Magic come out into the world. I’ve read all the novellas and they are each fabulous. My novella is the first in a new series about a family of five sisters who are witches. I’m still writing that series (all novellas) and loving it.

Next month I’ll share the cover and a few more details. We’re publishing as 3 Witches Books and conspiring to get this endeavor going has saved all of our sanity over the last several months. We have several other projects in the works.

I’ll leave you with a photo of some of the teensiest blooms happening in the garden today. A double white scented violet and a Hacquetia epipactus with it’s adorable lime green flowers.
